Four piece alt-pop band Venus Demilo has released a video to accompany ‘Penniless’; a song overloaded with hooks and energy. Taken from their Northern Lights EP, ‘Penniless’ goes back to the bands roots and shows their influences from emo rock combined the more modern indie-pop sound they have developed through the years
We spoke to the band ahead of the video release…
Who are you?
We’re Tom, Josh, Ryan & Jake
Where are you from?
All over the UK but we’re based in Liverpool at the moment
Describe yourself in three words…
Former emo kids
What are your influences?
Taking Back Sunday (to prove our emo stripes), Clean Cut Kid, Foals, The 1975
What is the highlight of your career so far…
Being played on BBC Radio 6 Music was awesome and out of the blue. We’ve all listened to Tom Robinson’s show since we were first in bands so that was surreal.
What is the worst gig you’ve played?
We got shut down by the police once because the venue we were playing was raided. We’d just released our first single and were about to play it as the last song in the set when it all kicked off. A sea of yellow jackets stormed in and us and the crowd just had to chill there for an hour while we all got questioned. It was all very dramatic and a definite vibe killer.
If you could create your own gig who would you play with?
Enter Shikari, The Beatles and Spring Offensive
What’s your karaoke song?
Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman by Britney Spears
What’s next for the band?
We’re currently working on some new releases for the end of the year and we’re going to make an announcement about rescheduling our tour which was cancelled for obvious reasons
Best three new bands…
SPINN, Low Island & Vistas
