‘Plastic Hooligans’, the debut single from Bolton based post-punk based Remain Blank, is an explosive introduction to a new wave of Northern guitar music.
Channeling the angst of a generation sidelined by pandemic-induced isolation, the tracks captures the raw energy of youth grappling with a world that moved on without them.
Speaking about the meaning behind the song the band said “Plastic Hooligans initially came about after a couple of separate incidents where we’ve been threatened by lads (people we branded ‘plastic hooligans’). We’d toyed with the concept and we’d written a few drafts of the lyrics but every time we took it to the studio musically it just didn’t feel right. We’d essentially given up on it as a song when we were messing about in rehearsal and the instrumentation all suddenly came together in the space of 3 minutes flat, without having to say a word we all knew it had to be plastic hooligans. over a year and a half later, it became the final song of our set, an impactful and memorable end and it hasn’t moved since”
With powerful guitars and sneering vocals, the song is impactful statement for their debut that is already turning heads and shaking up the music scene.
